This is so disappointingly average. Had high hopes from the samples too. They really haven't done anything decent since atww. Shame..

Insomnium definitely shifted their sound around starting with AtD, and really sounded different on OFS. Not everyone was happy about this.

Shadows went back to their roots a little, but still more resembled their post-AtWW sound. This is different again but still sounds more posts AtWW style.

So it makes sense that some people who feel AtWW was the pinnacle of their sound are pretty turned off by this. AtWW is still my favorite too. But this is damn close.

I just love the fact here at sputnik there isn't this fanboy, shat all over yourself, Insomnium is the best fucking band in the history of the universe, aura.

^^^Where did you experience that?

Yeah I mean, imo they're consistently really solid and occasionally amazing, but far from any kind of "best band evar" moniker.

Like I said though, I've got a soft spot for concept albums with a complete package that works and this sells me 100%

The other webzine I have frequented the last 8 years - it's European, so I guess the Insomnium worship is to be expected.

Part 3 does take too long to get rolling, imo, but the ending is my favorite section of the whole album.

wow @jimmy I took a couple of listens to ATWW last night and... it hasn't aged well, this is more streamlined and coherent, I think mixing and production damages ATWW... maybe I came with low expectations and left greatly satisfied by this record...

I don't get how Above the Weeping World is so much more popular here than Since the Day. In any event, this keeps getting better, and yes, this just might be their best album as a whole. Its more consistent than anything else they released I believe. Even though I absolutely love their early day bangers, this probably takes the cake on the album front

So much this. They have A LOT of really amazing songs...spread across their entire discog.

I find this is their only album to date that flows perfectly from start to finish.

Especially when you've read the story and you've got a nice clear and specific mental image of what's happening (horrible monsters ripping dudes to shreds)
