I guess it's a grower, but Revocation's gonna whack this thing's head off in about a month

Doubt it.

Pretty solid. A little more melodic than past albums but it's still got that Gojira sound.
Wish they just added a little more weird experimentation to their sound. Maybe they will branch out more next album.

You guys can't tell me some of the riffs don't sound like mastodon lol. Was my classification of djenty mastodon a little cliche'?....Sure. However, the riffs do have a mastodon feel which i like btw. i just used the word djent because they use unorthodox rhythms

"i just used the word djent because they use unorthodox rhythms"
yea, well...don't do that lol. especially because this band was playing with "unorthodox rythms" long before some moron coined that term, djent.

Yeah the closer is so pointless and anticlimactic.

Like I said, they should've gone really out there for the closer to end the album on some sort of cliffhanger.
Something like that anyway, closer really drags this down from being their magnum opus for me.

"Ugh that description doesn't conform to my standards fucking shit"
Thank you!
Anywho I really like the riffs of Only Pain and Stranded in those verses. They have that similar weird effect I don't know how to describe. They're like really high sounding and have wah effects?

Picked this up a few days ago. Don't wanna say I'm disappointed but it seems like 3 or 4 outstanding songs surrounded by many lackluster tracks

I dug this hard.

Again, nobody is bothered by the fact that it should be an 8 tracks 38 minutes record ? (Of course removing the closer and the interlude here). Plus the fact that the songs in themselves don't have that many different parts. Everybody seem to revere Low Lands and ok it's good, but it's four minutes of the same and then a closing riff for one minute. I'm surprised that so many people should say that the album is a grower when you just need one or two listen to know it by heart.
I totally dig the new musical orientation but I wish everything had been a bit more complex. Maybe on their next album.

Yea I think that if a few of the songs weren't that simple this would be better. I mean the title track is cool for a while but it loses momentum when they repeat that verse riff. With that being said though I really wanna 4 this. Need another week to take this one in though.

this has like some of my favorite gojira moments ever followed with some of the stupidest parts ever i.e. the second riff that repeats way too many times in magma or the closer (seriously did the brothers get hammered and trade instruments and just fuck around next to a room mic or what?)

Album is try-hard tbh.
It's obvious they're going for this stripped down, primal, natural feel with the simpler more repatative song structures, the kind of hollow production, the the awkwardly approached softer sections.
None of it works imo. There's some pretty catchy stuff and some really great moments but as a whole experience, it's extremely meh.
