Ulcerate are actually heavy for starters...

And they don’t suck.

I quite like Flesh Prevails tbh but in terms of songwriting and actual quality they're oceans apart.

Flesh Prevails is even worse than this for me lol.

I think that dude on RYM who compared brand new to unwound still takes the cake tbh

Ulcerate was brought up because Fallujah tries to do atmospheric death metal and fails miserably in comparison to the greatness of Ulcerate who is probably the best at it IMO.
Thus the title of 'discount-Ulcerate'.

Ulcerate is quite dense
They are masters, but it takes me like 45 listens to get used to each album

You're goddamn right about that. It took me quite a bit to get into each of them. I think I'm among the majority that, after giving them all the standard 45 listens I think Destroyers of All is the best.

You could say that most death metal is, or is at least intended to be sonically dense and have some kind of "atmosphere" to it, thought not necessarily a claustrophobic one. The two bands go about achieving these things in completely different ways so yeah the comparison raised an eyebrow for me is all.

Two of the few death metal bands with a very big emphasis on the epic atmospheric soundscapes that play very technical, blast beat-laden styles of death metal. The stylistic similarities are there just Ulcerate is way more natural.
