I love how 'Then Again' has a refrain about refrains, and its a fine tune as well. Agreed that its out of place, but its tricky to think of where they could have fit it

Agreed that Then Again doesn't fit well within the album, but to me it and Visiting are great gateways into some of the more rock-based live sets they do. I love the folksy sound of their studio stuff, but you get a different feel from it all live that those two rep at least a little bit

Yeah, Metronome is a fantastic song. All of their older work is a lot more amateurish than Cardinal, but it's no less impassioned or charming. Even Mixtape One, which had the initial version of The Metronome on it, and which came out seven years ago, is just so solid. Sorta reminds me of early Death Cab for Cutie, actually.
