I like Billy's vocals. I also like Brian Molko's vocals.
Somehow this fella has managed to extract the androgynous cheeky wink form Molko and the fully invested charm of Corgan and ended up in total Wimpsville, USA.
Struggling to think of a worse, less inspired singer in alt rock than this dude - an unpleasant voice which he doesn't know how to maximise like the aforementioned gentlemen. A bad natural voice utilised abysmally.

I love Corgan and Molko but Aubert is easily a better singer than either of them

Kinda agreed, I do love Billy's vocals a lot of the time but this guy can do some magical things

His tone is grating throughout - but when he does the mewling/sob story singing, like an injured crying kitten, I want to fill up a bucket of water and put him out of his misery
It's like he took the worst habits of alt rock singers and mixed them with the worst habits of emo singers - his vocals are legitimately gross
Problem with the new album is now the music has no guitar welly his vocals are even less appropriate, so the album ends up a 1 out of 5 rated travesty. Crap.
First two albums had their moments.

By drowning him? Doof you sick fuck
I sincerely hope the new album will be like the first two. If not, fuck it.

I think I was saying if he were a mortally injured kitten as his vocals frequently suggest then I'd mercy kill him

Good to know.
I'd say the new album is another step down in quality from this one.
Band are just looking for a bit more cash in the pension fund before retirement, just a 'new material to support the latest tour' job.

Oh fuck. Guess I'll just stick to the first two then. The stuff that comes after is exactly the kind of shallow indie crap I cannot stand. Pika sad )':

doof is completely wrong as usual, new album is their best since the first two and the closest they've come to recapturing the sound, vibe, and quality of those albums.

Well, considering I actually own a pom and love Darkthrone, I have no choice but to trust Hellscythe on this one.

Songs just aren't up to it, the guitar work was average, and the production is trying to 'keep up with the times' with some programmed beats but they add nothing - the lack of vocal hooks, energy, or intensity means what was always the weakest element of the band has become the ultimate handicap

the album you're describing is this one, not the new one.

I didn't like this one either but it seemed a bit more comfortable in its own skin, it seemed maybe the band were following their muse or whatever (still - I rated is a 1.5 so not good agreed)
New one just sounds like a bit of a retread and aimless
I was never a massive fan - the first two are solid sort of 2.5s taken as full albums, with a few 4 out of 5 tunes sprinkled on them.
I'm amazed this band are popular here and at all popular in 2019, sort of band I take a morbid curiosity over being a child of alt rock and all that. Muse are to Radiohead what Silversun Pickups are to the Smashing Pumpkins is how I've always seen it more or less.

the production is as slick as you'd expect from an alt-rock album in 2019 but there's very few "programmed beats", there's more moments of fuzzy and intense guitars than this one, and the overall mood and atmosphere is 100% more like Carnavas and (especially) Swoon than anything since those albums. it's like an album based around some of the slower moments of Swoon like Growing Old and It's Nice to Know You Work Alone.
it feels more genuine and comfortable than this or Neck of the Woods, both of which felt way more like attempts at writing typical glossy indie rock.

First two are solid 4s, rest is 2.5 or below, not counting the new one because I haven't heard it.
Muse's Origin of Symmetry and Absolution are awesome, the rest sucks big black balls. I'm actually surprised you're comparing them to Radiohead because I don't find their sound that similar.

There's nothing as catchy as It's Nice to Know You Work Alone here for me, simple as that.

doof's an old man with old man opinions so don't be surprised when he says nonsensical old man things

When they first came out Showbiz did seem a bit The Bends...and when Carnavas came out it did sound quite Pumpkins.
Both bands diverged a lot later from those early sounds - mainly for the worse for me.
