meant to say indie rock but I see you guys clearly want to be douche genre nazis. you guys are so cool...
It's definitely emo though holy crap

It was just a particularly funny comparison.
Anyway, I really don't get this record and going back through the Wonder Years discography, I guess I don't really get the love for the band. I only knew Came Out Swinging and some of the Aaron West stuff before I gave this one a shot and after the immediate Hotelier comparison, I guess it kind of strikes me as overly dynamic in a way. It seems like Soupy (and I hate that name, but that's a different thing altogether) is either in his sad puppy lament voice (Intro of You Ain't No Saint) or his yell that carries him through every chorus.
If this many people love this band so much, I know I'm probably looking at it in an overly cynical way, so where is a good place to start with these guys? They constantly get rec'd alongside some of my favorite acts, so I must be missing something.

The Greatest Generation is their best, but Suburbia is probably their most accessible. Apart from their debut there isn't really a bad place to start.

GG > Suburbia > Upsides > This
Probably their weakest since debut, but that album doesn't count.

GG > Suburbia > This > Upsides. GG is far and away the best. Close between the other 3

still need to listen to their previous albums, first impressions on TGG were fantastic.

TGG has their best songs for the most part and is their most consistent album. Suburbia's singles tower over the other songs on the album imo.

TGG would be a five for me as well if it weren't for madelyn, but yeah suburbia has the better singles but TGG is a more cohesive album than suburbia.

Ughhh Madelyn is horrible... I still think TGG is slightly better than this though.

The only song holding this back for me is A Song For Patsy Cline. Parts of it feel a bit too much like Sing The Sorrow era AFI and the chorus is kinda weak

TGG may be a little better than this. Still on the fence. The choruses are definitely more memorable on TGG.

I feel the opposite, for the past week the only thing I've had going through my head are the choruses of all the songs on here, and all of Cigarettes and Saints.

Cigarettes and Saints obviously. But idk, I just feel like this album has less memorable choruses than TGG, Suburbia and upsides. Its just a new style for them.
