"Yeah, I'm a moron because I think this is below average."

No, I think you're being called a moron because you said this:

"It's like people bought the hype before the album came out and now no one wants to back down from their initial anticipation and accept that this isn't good."

You're trying to make your opinion of the album valid by saying that ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE is in complete denial over how mediocre the album is.

You've got your own opinion and that's fine, but it's ridiculous to say everyone else's opinion is wrong because they're ALL supposedly too scared to admit what they really think. Which is just simply, once again, your opinion.

couldn't care less about internet reviewers, they are generally pretentious snobby clowns (not talking about Sputnik) who will say anything that is popular or anything controversial if it gets a buzz, and I can't stand them pretending to be historians by telling us all how "impactful" this album will be.

"it's still way too early to tell how big or small of an impact this record will have." I don't think so, I think its obvious, he's (virtually) not saying anything new on this album, its just the catchy way he says it that is exceptional. In my opinion its obvious the only impact this is going to have is filling the pockets of INterscope Records execs and convincing kids they are part of some movement that hasn't been 1/100th as hardcore as they pretend it is for the past 20 years.

My apologies, I speak too broadly. I exaggerate a bit. I didn't literally mean everyone is in denial that this is not that amazing. That's what I said, my bad.

I'm just trying to wrap my head around the hype and ratings vs what I heard when I listened to the album multiple times and how grating it was to me. Not sure why it bothers me so much to see all the praise, but it does. I don't get it.

Your personal feelings do not determine the course of history or how this album will be perceived in the future.

uh yeah thats redundant

but at least I actually seriously study history before I talk about how this album will affect history and call everyone who disagrees "ignorant" cuz they aren't parroting MSNBC talking points.

No one is claiming that this album will make history and start some part of a movement. Maybe it'll be regarded as a classic album, and take it's place in the history of music. You can't 100% determine the longevity of an album beforehand, no matter how hard you are trying to tell everyone a different story.

"Yeah, I'm not getting it. People are making such a big deal about the lyrics and the message. They're sometimes clever, they rhyme, and above all they're about social justice.

That's all been done to death, no?"

man, sput threads are so hit or miss; sometimes they're super good, but most of the time, they're this awful

Yeah, you know a music website is going downhill when people start asking questions about music they're told is amazing.

"talking about racism has been done to death in a period where the world's most developed nations still struggle with institutionalized racism"

it's not about the music at all it's just that what you said is patently awful i couldn't give half a shit how much you like the album

@Solbrave Neither I nor anyone ever said what you just posted, so why did you put quotations? Let me show you how people use quotations correctly.

"it's not about the music at all it's just that what you said is patently awful i couldn't give half a shit how much you like the album"

You're talking about stuff I never brought up. I WAS clearly talking about the music. By your logic we should always sing songs about love because everyone still wants and struggles with love. People are saying it's the next big thing, and I'm pointing out that every other form of music that we rightfully consider the next big is so because it's outside the norm. Rappers talking about social justice is very common. I never said anything about the message being wrong or right. It's just not news to anyone.

if you don't find it novel or interesting that's entirely different; your comment sounded like it was criticizing the idea of socially "progressive" attitudes being in music, sorry for responding as such

i mean jazz/funk influenced hip-hop has also been done before but that doesn't make doing it again necessarily bad/trite, it can still be done well
