Hahaha, yes! One of my favourite moments of 2015 so far. These guys put on a great show.

I hear a fair amount of The Chameleons in VC's sound, I'm not sure if InfamousGrouse agrees.

Which particular aspects did you have in mind?

Ha, I'm not actually sure why I said that. Mainly how they always threaten to go into melody, and their hooks.

Little story, when I saw Viet Cong play live Flegel said that while bands always say that they love playing in whatever town/city they happen to be in, he actually meant it because Manchester is where all the bands that VC ''rip-off'' are from...

There might be something in that but they're not the first that I would've brought up - the only band that VC indisputably rip off is This Heat. Back when I first heard this I also found similarities with the rawness of 80s Swans or early Bauhaus

and Joy Div obviously, perhaps a bit of Interpol too

by plugging away at the old Google I just found out the Durutti Column were Mancs too, awesome! That scene must've been really something to live through.

Thoughts on the TBC name change?

kind of dumb, but at least they have a reason to. plus now my copy of this could sell for a lot in a decade or two, so that's good

I have no connection whatsoever to the American/Vietnamese community (in fact, I had no knowledge of the existence of the viet cong prior to the issue being raised in Pitchfork a few months back) but I suppose there are some wounds that shouldn't be reopened.

I gave my VC t-shirt to my girlfriend before we split up and haven't got it back rip

idk it's just a name. of course the name is somewhat controversial considering the historical context, but there's also a really popular band called Joy Division and no one seems to have beef with their name even though it's making reference to the prostitution wing of a nazi concentration camp.

so idk
