woulda never guessed it
are you on board with where the tv show has been going the past few seasons?

ive never hated a season of the show and in fact have liked or loved every one, but at this point I just accept that it's a watered down version that they're just trying to reach the end point for as well as capitalizing on the popularity. I'm the generic book reader that thinks their writing decisions and alterations have mostly been downgrades, but I recognize some of them at least as prudent or necessary.
I do think they're going way too fast though, the last season was consistently entertaining, but also rushed at several points. Trying to hit the end game with the next season normally would've seemed impossible to me.

Sweet, thanks Tri. I'll order Gardens of the Moon and see how I get on. Just ordered the first book in the wheel of time series too. A guy I used to work with raved about it
|

haha, those two series are polar opposites. I'd probably start with WoT. I found it hard read after coming from Malazan since WoT is super trope-y in this day and age, where as Malazan is very atypical for most fantasy
GotM was written 10 years before the second book and it's kinda all over the place. I always recommend at least checking out the 2nd book if you're not a huge fan of it since there's a massive jump in quality between the two

Seems the Amazon reviews weren't lying. A lot say the first is a bit iffy but gets better from 2nd.
I'll see how wheel goes then maybe progress onto malazan next :3

Holy shit you got some courage trilogique cause I am such a lazy/slow reader even though I really enjoy the series (I'm at the end of Bonehunters). However, the series is so complex thus far and I can def project the joy of rediscovering it. Cheers mate

i'm not usually one for re-reading but it's so different on the second read. there's a crazy amount of foreshadowing you miss out on your first time and since it's so complex i only remember the major story beats. all the smaller, detailed stuff is what's really hooking me
funnily enough i was thinking about giving WoT another shot after i finish lol. sucker for long books i guess

Came to the review section after listening to awesome album, then see its a convo on epic fantasy...not disappointed.
I havent started Malazan yet, but own the first 3 books. I love GRRM, Scott Lynch, Rothfuss, and Guy Gavriel Kay. Once you've read those, don't bother with WoT, its garbage.
