i dont think fallujah deserves to be dismissed as technical wankery is all

i mean i always thought tech death and wank went hand in hand. to criticize a tech death album for being too technical is just asinine
unless its some bullshit like brain drill or psyopus ofc

yeah psyopus is just insane
but the production in nearly all modern tech-death is just incredibly sterile and it bothers me a little with all of the horrible drum samples that have no depth to them, and the guitar itself is so hollow, so the use of layers of atmosphere give it a full sound which is a facade

I'm bothered by how technical Spawn Of Possession are, for example - not for technically good/advanced
they are but for how their songs are structured in such a messy way.
Fallujah never passed me that feeling. Harvest Wombs for instance took its time to sink in with me,
but i was never like "dudes, bring it down a notch and actually make some logic out of your music"
like i was with SoP.
To whoever said Fallujah was dweedly weedlies, go listen to Spawn Of Possession :3

actually i'd probably give this a 4 if the production was any better cause the songwriting is stellar
it just...when i'm listening to it makes me feel like i have a constant headache and my ears are just full of water/air or some shit it's horrendous
i hate brickwalling

final veredict this rules
i dont see how production alone can lower something from a 4 to a 2.5 for you. sure it may be loud and compressed (i feel like a lot of people throwing that word around dont even know what it means) but the music is really interesting. if anything, the over-prominence of synths and the constant layering is way more distracting than the drum production and loudness

My only problem with this album apart from the production, is too many songs sound like "interlude" songs, and don't really go anywhere.

I'm totally down with atmospheric parts as long as they're quieter so when the metal kicks in again it feels like a burst of adrenaline with the sudden change in volume. This never does that.
Really the problem for me though were the drums, they're so grating to listen to.

how something sounds is just as important as what they're playing as far as i'm concerned
if it sounds like shit to the point where it totally detracts from everything else, it's shit.

yeah but this doesnt sound like shit and detract from everything else, its the usual hyper-compressed, loud, almost midi-fied production that almost all these types of bands use (im not a huge fan of it either). everything is crystal clear and none of the instruments rly overpower the others so i dont see how it could be /THAT/ big of an issue.

i think the guitars sound empty and the drums are just fake. i dig the album, because they layered the instrumentation and that makes it sound more enveloping, even though the guitars need like 30 different tracks to really fill the stereo field
