As for rym, I found a shitload of music by using their best-of-genre and best-of-year lists. And most of it also happens to be wildly loved on Sputnik. That site is the shit. And yeah, the averages usually (but not always) seem to coincide with my own opinions better than they do here.

what really upsets me about this album is that I know Agalloch can do so much better than this. Faustian Echoes looked like a return to form

that section between the opening track and the astral dialogue gives me chills (Serpens Caput)
