Spirits Away is one of my favourite songs on the album to be honest.
The intro just goes so unfuckingbelievably hard - every time I hear it I'm quite literally compelled to spontaneously rip out the air guitar & play my heart out to it; as is the case with much of the album to be honest. & then it combines an array of everything else that is truly brilliant about the band into the rest of the song along with that really unique & rather surprising slow interlude section you're talking about. The result - is quite simply eargasmic.
But the rest are all so damn good that I'm not entirely sure I can accurately pick an outright winner just yet. Probably Dementia to be honest - it is truly rather epic in every sense of the word. Strongest album close I've heard in a while.
I just don't get how anyone with a proclivity or genuine appreciation for insane technical super-melodic guitar work could possibly not enjoy this.

Pretty surprised this album is getting so much attention on this site. There's really nothing special about it. It's just a more talented elitist with more bells and whistles. Every time I try listening to it I just space out and forget I'm listening to an album

I even prefer Elitist over these guys. However, I'm only talking Caves really because after that they pretty much sucked. Actually, their lp isn't too bad.

shit i never thought elitist was that special idk

Caves line up Is never coming back it's just rich Cali kids now

But back to complaining about this album. The first riff of hybrid earth is so hilariously annoying. Its like they try so hard to be technical with "sooper surprising harmonized runs" In between natural harmonics and a tonal fills. It's like there aren't riffs on the album just a collection of fills. Djenty fills. -12/10 would not play in car

I enjoyed Caves, & Reshape Reason to a slightly lesser extent. The new EP was alright - but they're certainly nowhere near these guys in the grand scheme of things for me.
I find it quite odd that you can like Caves but not this though, because they do share similarities in some aspects.

Apart from the solo I find Hybrid Earth to be one of the weakest tracks.

I thought caves had more solid song writing and better dynamics. I also got into it like 3 years ago and if I heard it for the first time today I probably wouldn't be too interested.

Dude, these guys are technical whether you care to admit it or not. They are undeniably extremely proficient on their instruments & both the lead & rhythm guitar work on here is truly stellar.
& I'm actually unsure if you're listening to the same album as I am, because there are some ridiculously good riffs on this.

Yeah I'm saying they are technical. They are all talented at their instruments. My criticism Is that they focus so much on "techy" that the riffs end up being pretty tasteless. Sometimes a simple riff can say a lot more than a line of harmonized mess.

Oh okay sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you meant that you thought they were trying so hard to be technical even though they're not. Fair enough if the overly technical stuff isn't for you & the overall djentyness of it is a bit much - but personally, I'm a huge fan of anything that combines melody, technicality & brutality as effortlessly as these guys do.
Have you heard Spirits Away? If you don't feel that opening riff, then I would be inclined to say that this shit just isn't for you...
