this is one of those albums that reminds me i used to really like the band and go back and binge on their old stuff and never bother listening to their new album
happens with me a lot, blink 182 another recent example

Snow Cats is good. White Offerings isn't bad, just way too repetitive. Like god, it could have been great. It's a shame my headphones broke today so I feel like I'm robbing myself of an experience.

I don't find White Offerings too repetitive
Both singles are pretty darn solid, better on the second listen

Haha why is the new self titled one being subtitled as The Blood Album?

Cuz AFI is also the name of their greatest hits album

New song Aurelia feels like these in the sense that they all sound just a tad under developed. Still really dig it, bridge sounds great.

About 3/4 of the album is stellar. The rest of the songs feel like b sides to me. Also The Face Beneath The Waves never gets enough love.

New album is definitely better than Burials. Still A Stranger, Pink Eyes, and She Speaks The Language are my favorites with Still A Stranger in particular being one of this band's best songs, and I haven't been able to say that about this band in forever. My biggest problem is how short/rushed/underdeveloped some of these songs feel. But, the vocals and lyrics are overall miles better than Burials and instrumentally, this is by far the most interesting AFI has been.

Overall, I'm super happy with it. I wish it was a little more somber in tone, but nothing here feels forced so that's good. Still need a good quality version to truly judge, but this is a much stronger AFI for sure. Honestly, if Get Hurt and Above the Bridge were cut in favor of more of these tracks getting longer/more developed bridges/verses this could have been their best work. I hope this isn't their last because if they build from this then STS may finally be dethroned.

It's a very nice album overall, yeah. Can't help but notice that Davey just isn't as verbose anymore, though. So, he'll have to work on that too if StS is to be dethroned any time soon (which I doubt it'll happen anyway, and it's not even nostalgia speaking), cuz the lyricism used to be stronger and complemented the music really well.

as if sts was their album to be dethroned

Well, it's not like they'll ever sound like AoD again. Even if they try, it may just end up forced.
