How many more top-notch albums like this are going to be released this year?
But seriously, "Colored sands" is extremely good indeed. The band may have a considerably large gap between each of their albums but at least every time they make up for those long periods of wait. As for the album itself, I personally think the first half outshines the second-but not by that much. I mean, the one thing that annoys me a bit is that fact that 'Absconders' is a bit too long (although I know that Gorguts like to experiment, and they usually do that considerably well), yet that doesn't exactly lower the quality that the previous seven songs had produced. Personal favourites for me are the outstanding title track, 'Le toit du monde' and the nice classical interlude that is 'The battle of Chamdo'. This album is going to be loved by many for years to come, that's for sure.

One of us is the killer is a sweet album, sunbather is a bit overrated. New misery signals is far more overrated

absent light is hardly overrated. most people are pretty disappointed with it. sunbather is definitely the most overrated

Well Canada is trying to pass a horrible bill against musicians so you don't have to feel guilty for anything against them

I am Canadian and fuck my government (it's so much worse than the US).
I was just saying I like pimping out Canadian bands but I can't pretend like I love this. I'd love to be able to though, ya dig?
|

lol yea yea sure I know what you meant, just can't get over that new bill they're doing, gonna destroy
the chances of so many bands to possibly get recognition and from outsiders to get attention there

yeah that sucks. the most environmentally destructive project in human history being snuck under the noses of the public is a little bit worse though.
that touring bands bill dealie is fucking ridiculous though. shows you what sort of irrational lunatics we have running our country. we'll always have GY!BE I guess.

and The Weakerthans, if they ever tour again...

This won't really be much of a problem to the bigger bands such as them, mostly gonna be a hassle to
the medium to low funded bands, beginner bands trying to get some money from playing in bars and shit
too
there are tons of petitions to make sure it doesn't happen though, so I guess we can only hope

it's kind of a general trend in Canada right now though that's more than a little troubling. I guess I'm only speaking for Vancouver here, but we've got small venues closing down every week as the government encourages gentrification of the poorer (but more character-filled) areas and these club/venue owners are forced out. there's this eerie sense in the air that the government is going out of their way to cut funding from and otherwise discourage the growth of culture and arts. at least out West, I hope they're keeping it real in Montreal/Toronto etc.

Funny you mention that since there's been several venues (some of which have last since before I was born)
closing down in the last few months, especially since our previous president died (Hugo Chavez, from
Venezuela here)
Probably just a coincidence though, there's always been generally "anti cultural" laws/air circling in my country.
or rather anti cultural to the outside world's culture (Basically our government's been crazy for our
country to have its own identity, if you know what i mean, to the point of outright rejecting/shunning
outsider cultures)
