I would say Drew is my favorite musician of all time, so I don’t know why my expectations were low. But, by the time I reached the end of it… I think it might just be brilliant. Definitely good and I can see it really growing

Underrated album, easily as good as Roots IMO and both are way ahead of their time. Gonna have to check out that Drew album, the only thing I've heard from him recently was his lil screamy bois on that last Junius album which I was pretty shocked to find out was him but that shit was sick.
Also they were selling both this record and roots at least as of a couple months ago on vinyl on their website for remarkably cheap, like 25$ each and they have beautiful packaging and sound great, pretty sure Kathi is just shipping them out of her home. Very nice stumble-upon.

they are so different it's honestly hard to compare. all i know is i love both of them.

love it when artists are like "this is 'Vol. 1, (Forward to) Chapter 1' and then cunningly disappear. i'm on my toes!!! Drew's solo album kinda takes its cues from "Microphones in 2020" but significantly less affecting/thrilling

Great album but nowhere near as good as their first [2]

don't think Mics in 2020 is the right Elverum comparison for Drawn Bow at all tbh, two very different shapes of sprawl. earlier Microphones might have had a sliver of cogency, and yet

fuck i have as the roots undo rated but basically dont know it at all, need to revisit
never got round to this
just did some googling, saw they repressed as the roots undo for the 20th anniverary. seems like they have a lot of merch going at the moment.

earlier microphones way too playful and healthy and young! dudes sit with an acoustic and tell the tales of their lives, singing for their supper. occasional waves of droning distortion lap at shore.
as the roots undo was the second CD i bought online, not an easy task on dial-up

i love how this is its own thing and ATRU is also its own thing and there is nothing like either.

I prefer this one stylistically but both albums are great

finally bumped roots to a 4.5, might do this too
Signal Fires-Singing Vengeance is SUCH a good run.
also idk, i had, until recently thought Spirit Narrative was kinda just Roots-lite. i was veryyyyy wrong

"i love how this is its own thing and ATRU is also its own thing and there is nothing like either. "
agreed. i still remember how hyped i was when this was released. so many memorable moments on both this and ATRU that randomly pop into my head often. the band never missed, that's for sure! the first EP rules too

have to check the first EP (heard some songs, may have heard the whole thing but idk, i remember liking what I heard a lot though!) and pg.99 split and then I think that's it sighhhhhh
and yeah, I love how memorable those moments are. they have so much character.

Weird, I was thinking of listening to this today for the first time in ages and it gets bumped. Taking that as a sign!
