Genius band, it is. Agreed, almost, all discog is underrated, in a sense. My rating here, is probably to low. Have to draw a line somewhere.

I haven't really listened to King Crimson in many years but every now and then I get the melody from Islands stuck in my head
I don't remember anything else from this album but Islands is one of the most beautiful songs I know

Dark harbour quays like fingers of stone
Hungrily reach from my island
Clutch sailor's words, pearls and gourds
Are strewn on my shore
Equal in love bound in circles
Earth, stream and tree return to the sea
Waves sweep the sand from my island, from me

I am surprised how low this is rated compared to the other 70s King Crimson albums. This definitely in the top half imo. And yeah, title track is beautiful.

Islands is so beautiful, a song that even my mother would love. So poetic

It's a pity but this is an underrated work. True.

I love Islands and do fully agree that it is underrated. But for me it is definitely not above Lizard. Lizard is a one of a kind album for me, blending jazz and a strong surreal vibe with Progressive Rock.
I want to lobby for delving deep into Lizard, haha definitely not lobbying against Island ;)

I agree with you, Don. I also prefer Lizard, as can be seen on my ratings about both albums. Lizard is a very difficult work to digest. It’s a complex album very experimental, bizarre, strange, creative, original, a most innovative album. A unique album in the discography of the band. It's an album that needs repetitive listenings to can be perfectly appreciated and understood.

I dunno when I imagine "KC sound" I imagine something closer to Islands than Lizard. It's got more of the things I like in it. I'm more of a Lark's tongues and Red kind of guy, tho.

I can see your point. I agree that Lizard is a unique and special album of KC, a transitional work.
