@SiliconFields yah that's what i figured, but i was just wondering if they mix it up at all when they play live.

"Eh, pretty sure most people go to those types of shows for the music, not really to watch the performer (Deviant might kill me for being wrong on this)"
It's a bit of both really. There's usually a shitload of crazy lights, good music (if you're into that scene), you get to dance around, watch the performer work the crowd. Only been to one electronic show so far but I'd love to go to more

^i'd imagine pretty good looking girls too... if you're into that kinda thing

It was awesome! He had 3 massive smoke machines (eg. The III in SkIllex) and a massive screen in the background with various lightshows. During the song 'Kill Everybody' he had COD4 and MW3 in the background.. It was sweeeet hearing that blast out with COD 1 shot sniper kills on a cinema size screen! He also played a bit of hip hop (BIG - Juicy) during his set

yeah i've seen him live, it was really fun for sure. I only caught half his set which was good for two reasons: any more and I probably would have gotten really bored, and his set conflicted with The Decemberists on the main stage. pretty happy with my decision to take in half of each set because I doubt either act could keep me entertained for a full one.

For this type of music a lot of it depends on the venue and the crowd.
When I saw Zedd/Excision/Deadmau5 it was in a club that could house about 2500 people an it was sold out so the ambience was pretty much perfect for the show.

A shitload of crazy lights? What are you a moth? You go for the music, everything else is just dressing to mask inadequacy.
yeah his shows are fun for sure. he's a good performer just not much of a musician.
"ok imma hit 'play' on my macbook then crowd surf for 30 seconds while my predictable wubbbbbbb bassdrop loops"
You kind of contradict yourself here. Plus the fact that an electronic musician can actually leave the stage for 30 seconds baffles me. I know a 14 year old kid who could put on a better show than Skrillex, and he probably charges a lot less
And yes I've seen Skrillex live, he tried to get all Hendrix by smashing his laptop at the end (I'm sure there's some kind of symbology here about how music has evolved over the years)

Of course I go for the music but the light show is a fun touch too you grouch

Yeah but it's not like it's needed. Do the lights make you dance? Or the smoke machine? (seriously, smoke machines stopped being cool after you turn 15). It's about the music, it isn't some kind of carnival

unless he's at Electric Daisy

how did I contradict myself? his shows are fun, but it's not like they're difficult to pull off on his end.

Just the way you said he was a good performer then eluded to him simply hitting play
I know electronic music is something of an oddity in your part of the world, the way no one can go 5 minutes without talking about a bass drop (seriously, the music cuts out and then comes back in, get over it), so I guess I should understand why you all treat it like wide eyed children. Oh my god, there was a smoke machine and he had lights! If you're there for the music, who cares what else is there. The music is all that matters

when you talk like that do you ever feel like a dick? do you just fight through that feeling and carry on?

maybe that's just how people talk to each other in your part of the world

I don't think anybody going to a concert similar to a Skrillex show will complain saying that the really cool light effects detract from the music itself.

I mean he puts on a good performance, in that his shows are fun. Whether or not what he does is challenging is beside the point that I'm trying to make.
I mean it was definitely entertaining watching him crowdsurf, everyone loved it. In the end that's all performance is about. He's not much a live musician though I guess is a necessary addition to what I was saying before.

Deviant - Lighten up a bit, you maybe getting old like me and see all these sweaty annoying kids at gigs (half of them didn't even know Sonny was in FFTL) but gigs are meant to be fun!
He needed all them props for his show otherwise the crowd would just be starring at one bloke mixing music for an hour and a half.

No I'm fine, I just find it weird more emphasis seems to be placed on all the frilly unnecessary bits and pieces; like it's not a normal concert in the sense that anyone is putting on a "show" of sorts, you know what I mean? You're there to dance, so why would you be staring? Do you go to a bar, where they play dance music, and stare at the walls?
when you talk like that do you ever feel like a dick? do you just fight through that feeling and carry on?
Note to self: treat user with kid gloves
