How can you call Limousine or Degausser "creatively safe"?

Album Rating: 5.0
maybe you're just referring to it's simplicity. but it's amazing how simple it is yet how unforgettable it is, how easily it rolls on, how emotional it is and how distinguishable every song is to the rest

I called the album "creatively safe," not specifically those songs. And while I think those tracks are interesting, the end result is that it doesn't move me the way I want to be moved by music.
There is no necessary connection between a song's complexity and how much I enjoy listening to it. A lot of my favorite songs are simple, and better for it. I'm not talking about simplicity when I talk about what I dislike about this album.

It sounds like you need to give this album a couple more listens. I don't understand how you cannot be moved or relate to some of the songs on here.

I'll definitely give it a few more listens. And it's worth owning, even if in the end I only ever listen to a couple songs and the only time it gets played is when others listen to my music.
I can relate to many things in the songs' lyrics, but normally I don't give much weight to that part of music. Yes it can add to or detract from a song's overall worth, but it's not what I listen to music FOR. I tend to look at how well I relate to the lyrics as more coincidental. It's not such a bad or good part of music for me.
I don't mind that so many like this album. It's awesome that it speaks so well to people. That's what's so awesome about music. I'm just not one of those people.

I go back and forth on giving this a 2.5 or 3. But I don't suspect my opinion will change much over time.

Yeah, I'm also not 'getting' this album...but that means it's about a 4 for me lol.

@Keyblade how can you rate it 'excellent' if you're 'not getting' it?
If you enjoy it that much that's fine. I'm not trying to bash your opinion. But it's a pet peeve of mine to see people overrate or underrate albums simply because they believe others will like or dislike it more than you yourself do. Isn't the whole point of sharing your rating the fact that it's YOUR rating? You aren't supposed to reflect anyone else with that number, or else the whole rating system is kind of f***ed. That's why I feel fine about giving The Devil And God a 2.5 (or possibly 3)--I want my experience to be made known, to provide evidence that not everyone's experience is reflected by the average rating, that at it's possible to be put off by some aspects of the music.

By not 'getting it' I mean that I don't see it as a classic like many here do. I still think it's an
excellent album that kind of wavers a bit in the middle, but so far it doesn't reach those levels yet.

In the end, this album blends in with the rest of the mainstream alt rock scene.
And you are a fucking idiot.

I would be an idiot if I lied about how I felt or if I attacked someone else for their taste in music. I wish I liked this album more, I really do. But I'm not gonna be changed by being insulted. Sorry.

You're right, both of those things are stupid. But to compare this to the shit that clutters the "mainstream alt rock scene" is like comparing The Dillinger Escape Plan to the modern hard rock scene or the Rise Records bands scene. I'm not saying you're wrong for not loving this as much as everyone else, obviously opinions are not a matter of right and wrong... but to compare this to the onerepublic and maroon 5 and 3 doors down or whatever the fuck other alt rock tops the billboard top 100 right now, well that is objectively wrong. You don't have to love this record, it's probably for the best if sputnik isn't just thousands of kids with the exact same "taste" in music. but at least respect it and don't defile it with idiotic comments like that?
And don't apologize to me goddamnit I'm not your dad.

I'm not defiling it. Its similarity to what other bands put out there is not necessarily a bad thing (although in my case it is) and is not entirely objective. For me, I get the same things out of this album that I do out of the larger alternative rock scene, and thus, for me, it blends in very well. And (once again, for me) that's a bad thing.

i don't want to live in a world where people compare this album to mainstream alt
like, opinions are opinions and all... but just HOW could anyone not be (in any way shape or form, whether it be remotely or immaculately) emotionally attached to this album? l
i just don't understand. you could write a 10 page comment and i still wouldn't understand your reasoning because honestly, this is probably one of the most well put together albums of all time. and i don't use that lightly, either.

Some of this stuff is pretty mainstream; Jesus and Sowing Season both charted, after all.
