Josh is a fucking genius [2]

his lead vocal parts give this album like 2 points by themselves

I'm listening to the record right now and the thing I noticed is that the backing vocals seem really low in the mix.

Everything is wrong about the mix on this album. There's no excuse for a band with this much experience in the studio to make something that sounds this lopsided.

You're implying that the Peppers have EVER had a well-produced album when Cali was easily as badly mixed as this

I guess I'm used to the 'By the way'-level of harmonies

It may not have ever been one of their strengths, and production is normally pretty secondary for me, but I think it sounds noticeably worse here.

Josh could have carried the weight of vocal harmonies too, easily. Maybe they'll let him do more on the next album. Maybe RHCP does have another good album in them and maybe Josh will take them there.

Maybe.

I'm surprised at your comments on vocal harmonies, he does plenty throughout this album not to mention doing more lead vocals than Froosh did in his whole time in the band which is great because Josh is the better singer

I really like Josh's harmonies.Sometimes they come close to John's style but they sound different.Refreshing.

I just wanted them to be louder on some songs.

I honestly don't remember a ton of vocal harmonies, or like ozz said they were toned down. Idk. Maybe I'll relisten to this some time.

Agreed that he's way too low in the mix

If we were to rank this album in terms of what should be loudest it'd be

Josh's voice

Josh's guitar

who cares

I'm with You, Row (get it?). I don't think this was a letdown because of Josh. He's obviously the most

artistically hungry current member of the band. They just should have had more faith in him.

Hehe nice

Josh is by far the most talented member of this band right now for sure and I'm glad they're not his only project because he'd be wasting his time if it was

Nevertheless I have faith in the next album for sure

i don't mind their mixes generally but hate the MASTERING cos TOO LOUD and lacking in DYNAMIC RANGE. probably started when RICK RUBIN produced BSSM

Yeah, this album is kinda hated on a bit too much. Features some of their best material of the past decade.
