Almost every Bowie album from the 70s to early 80s is 5 worthy tbh

Modern remasters are unnecessary

let 60s albums sound like they're from the 60s and 70s albums from the 70s and 80s albums from the 80s etc.

Great so King Crimson can sound like Porcupine Tree that's what we all want ;)

I respectfully disagree, especially when the production ends up sounding "outdated" or the artist ends up not liking it in retrospect (like Bowie himself said he was dissatisfied with the production job on both this and Station to Station), or it just flat out sucks.

The problem is that a lot of "modern remasters" just do nothing more than brickwall the original recording, otherwise there isn't anything really fundamentally wrong with remastering an album unless the artist in someway expresses disapproval of it

If it's from an era, it's okay for it to sound outdated

That's part of its charm

"or the artist ends up not liking it in retrospect"

The trashy 80s version of We're Only in It for the Money happened because of this

also if an album sounds like garbage, a remaster can make all the difference

mastering an album is already hard enough as it is, it's not charming if an album sounds bad or is dated

no

the original mixes of Lizard, Islands and Larks were all fucking garbage. it's a miracle Fripp decided to remaster the discography

I never thought Ziggy Stardust, Station to Station, or pretty much any of Bowie's albums had poor production, but I do feel like tampering with that production robs it of its original sound

it just means that many people today won't hear those songs that same way people did in the 1960s/70s/80s
