This BTBAM record achieves, and completely raises the bar, for this style of extreme progressive metal. To say that it
is a 2, thus implying that it is bad, is completely misguided and just wrong.
You seem unable to grasp the idea that what you're spouting is all opinion, without any concrete objective basis whatsoever. This record has met and exceeded the set of made-up standards you measure this style of music by, and nothing more. It has raised the bar for you, not the music.
Side note: Isn't it funny how the fact that internet is so impersonal, it causes people to lose all sense of civility.
"JUDGING AND RATING ALBUMS IS OPINION, YOU CLUB-FISTED OAF" I think that argument/debate is fun and healthy
thing when done for the sake of advancing ideas. A site like this one is the perfect forum for just that. However,

In all the years I've listened to music, discussed it with friends, gone to shows and played in bands and read professional reviews of rock, punk, metal, hip-hop and d'n'b, I've never once needed or cared about advanced music theory. Probably never will. When I talk about music, or when I write about it, I speak about my experience and ideas. I never try to bludgeon people with my opinion, I just try and get people to think about what I believe to be worthwhile, interesting ideas. You, on the otherhand, want to dictate what people can and can't talk about, what they can and can't offer an opinion of. How the hell would any kid ever learn about music?

I enjoy learning about literature, and when people say that Shakespeare or T. S. Eliot are a load of shit I can see what they are missing, but that doesn't change the fact that they have the right to express an opinion. I don't tell them they're wrong, I try and explain what others have shown me. If you go through your life snapping at everyone who criticises music based on anything other than actual music theory, you're gonna be busy, because I'd bet that 99.9% of all bands and listeners don't give a shit about it.

You try to dictate the behaviour of people you don't even know, and you back it up with advanced music theory. I talk about my opinions of an album, and use a little rhetoric to get them across. I'm not into writing academic papers on music, and even if I was this site wouldn't be the place. I emulate the style of the professional reviews I read and put my own twist into it; the ideas aren't trying to persuade, just provoke thought and discussion. And as I said, I've never needed or wanted to delve into music theory, so I understand that the way I appreciate music is different to the way you do, but something tells me that the band realise the majority of their fans won't know the theory you're talking about and won't mind people reacting to it in their own way, judging it in their own criteria.
