I love how Sputnik has these double standards.... Deftones' Diamond Eyes - which was essentially just a summation of their entire career to date - got almost universal praise on here. This album is pretty much in the same boat, and yet it's considered Agalloch's weakest album? XD

I mean technically it could be their weakest (still don't know if I like it more than The Mantle), but that doesn't mean that it's not amazing, because it is.

You're completely misinterpreting why people dislike this. We dislike it because it's watered-down and boring, or at least I do. But Diamond Eyes sucked too.

I thought this album was excellent. Rarely do I feel like I NEED to stop what I'm doing and close my eyes to listen to something, but this did it. In the end it's probably going to be my second favorite Agalloch album, behind The Mantle.

Embrace change.

its considered their weakest because it has the weakest songwriting of all their albums, regardless if its basically a summation of their previous albums. just doesnt have as strong of a vibe/feel/atmosphere (whatever you wanna call it) on marrow of the spirit as their previous albums did.

I disagree. The Atmosphere in this album is more visible than in all the other albums.

"Ghosts Of The Midwinter Fires" is the only song I see myself listening to from this over the next few months.
