this is very good and certainly REALLY REALLY influential--but not a classic for me. it's got some amazing songs (the opener, loomer, when you sleep, i only said, BLOWN A FUCKIN WISH)

but it has some ones that just arent amazing (come in alone, what you want) that simply exist to stretch out the 'shoegaze' vibe with some songwriting that really isnt that impressive.

'touched' and 'to here knows when' also both slightly annoy me, though ive grown to kind of like the latter. some songs are slightly too long and depend on the listeners interest in the 'shoegaze' production--'soon' and 'i only said' come to mind, though i really like both of those songs.

overall it has a great vibe and some amazing songs, and really is one of a kind--it's just not a classic. i also don't like the way the drumming sounds. sounds cheap.

"any shoegazists here want to give me modern stuff that sounds like this that I haven't heard? I've been getting into some cool shoegazy stuff lately. "

This album still defines the "wall of sound" sound.

This isn't about the individual songs. This album just doesn't work like that. You listen to the entire thing. And the drums are all drum machines, except on two (I think) songs because the drummer was sick or something.

the album works well as a cohesive whole but there are certainly the standouts for me and ones that bring it down. when i hear 'come in alone' i start to think: 'okay, this is getting a little tired now'. it could be the sequencing, but i just think that means that song is uninspired.

Sometimes is gorgeous, son. Shit is mad beautiful and touching, broski.

Nah but seriously it's probably one of my favorite songs off this record.

That's your opinion, but the rest of the songs make up for it.

blown a wish and loomer are best

loomer has the best 'fill up the headphones' quality of all of them--very deep and feels like it's about to thunder and explode under you constantly. that keyboard hook is just bliss.

'blown a wish' is just gorgeous; plus the lyrics combined with the vocals gives bilinda a beautiful kind of 'motherly' presence. lmao thats so gay but it's true.

If it wasn't for this album, we likely wouldn't have post-rock either.

Only a crazy fucking band like My Bloody Valentine would sample their own feedback, within the already huge mix of guitars.

It's true to some extent.

I actually have this theory that Sonic Youth were really influential to the post-rock genre, but you never hear them mentioned influence-wise by post-rock bands.

Or at least post-rock would look completely different.
