Nice to hear that he isn't screaming anymore, as his harsh vocals were some of the worst that I've ever come across in metal. They were just painful to hear.

I liked his harsh vocals...I especially like how they were melded together with clean vocals, such as on Pull Harder

Pull Harder is one of the few Trivium songs that I enjoy, and certainly not because of the vocals. The only time I enjoy them is during the breakdown just because they're so loud and angry sounding. Other than that, they're pretty awful. While he can hit the right notes with his clean vocals, I think that they're whiny and way too generic.
Gee thx for that lol... they arent repetitive...SF do u play the guitar cuz if u do...its not repetitive...theres heaps of parts for almost every song!! and i dont agree that matt heafys a bad screamer! Hes awesum..well...unique and hes one of the best "sing" singers in metal that i kno.
I do play guitar. I didn't mean to say that it sounds repetitive; more like recycled.

Anyway matt isnt the only one doing the screaming...look in all of the videos...live, studio and all and corey is screaming as well...when they were playing live in london, when matt was singing, corey was screaming

"All of that was spot on. And like I said, even though they aren't gods, I still think Corey is better. So if anyone wants to praise either of the two more for their guitars, start with Coery. Nothing against Matt though."
sorry i havnt figured out how to quote yet...
actually Matt is better in skill than corey but its just way too hard playing lead and singing at the same time! look in their instructional videos and you'll see that its always matt thats showing u the parts and how to play this and that

^^^yeah...I don't know how to quote either :D
^^^What instructional videos? Links please?
^^^You just said, in your previous post, that corey sings too. So they're both playing & singing.
I think corey should learn how to scream correctly, if he doesn't already, then they have a chance of being a great band.

i heard their new album is going to be sung like Dying In Your Arms. is this true?

I know. What I was saying, is that now, since Matt can't scream anymore, that Corey should learn how to sing correctly, so that the band can continue screaming.

You can kind of immitate the harsh tones without destroying your vocal chords...it's not exactly the same. But you can get close.

You can do harsh vocals without causing extreme damage to your throat. But you'll (thankfully) never achieve that god awful squawking noise that Matt used to do.
Properly performed harsh vocals run the gamit from a deep guttural growl, to an abrasive roar, to a puma-like rasping yowl and everything in between. But if you're squawking, you're doing it wrong. The way you can tell you're doing it right is when it doesn't hurt.
look in their instructional videos and you'll see that its always matt thats showing u the parts and how to play this and that
That's because Matt is an egotistical little prick who wants nothing but more and more attention. His so-called lessons are nothing more than another excuse for him to show off. This Message Edited On 06.18.06

^ he's right, I can do harsh vocals for hours and not hurt myself. It's easy when you learn to do it from the gut and not with the throat.

I enjoyed your review as well as Trivium. Look at it this way...got 2 radio stations...one plays Alan Jackson and Dixie Chicks over and over...our rock station plays nothing but Nickleback, Oasis, The Tragically Hip, Sam Roberts, Goo Goo Dolls...so on and so fourth. So when I do listen to bands like Trivium, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Godsmack and Mudvayne I sounds really kick ass. Trivium is deffiniatley (i can't spell) a band worth investing in. Like you said they do have potential and bands like Sabbath and Mettallica see that and I can see them blooming in to something worthy of high recognition. Look what they've accomplished at such a young age. Just give them fifteen years or so.
