djent is a term coined by thordenthal as onomatopoeia for a thick 4-string palm mute chord... like that's what it is. nothing more, nothing less. a song can have "djent" but it can't BE "djent"

but the term has become used enough to describe bands of a certian style to become the name of a genre

Calling a band a djent band and acting like it's a genre is like calling a band a Breakdown Band

but people haven't been using the term "breakdown" as a genre tag to describe a band of a certain style
