Makes sense. I used to be a fan of EVH myself, but he's kinda grown off me a bit, although I still respect the dude; but he's no longer among my faves for reasons akin to what manosg said.

Yeah EVH is a great player but overall I prefer emotional guitarists. Take Mark Knopfler for example. Very rarely people talk about him or his technique even though he's a great guitarist too. However, when you listen to his playing in tracks such as "Brothers in Arms" you can't help but feel emotional. Phrasing is very important for me in guitar playing.

I don't necessarily need emotion when it comes to (lead) guitarists, but I do value melody, and I feel that wasn't EVH's strong suit. I haven't heard much DS tho tbh, only some hits, of which I remember Money for Nothing the most.

I like them all too. DP has In Rock and Machine Head, LZ their 4th and 5th, and Sabbath Heaven and Hell and of
course Paranoid.
Interesting album picks, you missed out each of the 3 bands' best albums.

What are your favorites of the three then Jamie?

Blackmore has always been my favorite of the three. In Rock, Rising and this are all easy 5's for me

Indeed. "Lazy" and "Highway Star" would be my two favorites from this album.

Awesome tracks. "Never Before" is my least favorite from this album but still love it.

I think that track is the weakest as well but is still far from weak.

What are your favorites of the three then Jamie?
For each band respectively; Made in Japan (by far the easiest choice of the 3), Physical Grafitti (Houses is pretty close though) and Master of Reality (although Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is pretty much tied with it these days).

These sure a great choices. I would sure put Made in Japan as the highest of the DP albums, although In Rock is not far behind.

In Rock is the definitive Purple album. It's wild, creative and unrestrained.
Fireball is the more bluesy. It sounds more organic and warm.
Machine Head is the most refined and mature. It combines the best of both worlds from In Rock and Fireball.
My favorite atm is MH but it depends on my mood basically as I consider all three as classics.
