I can see why you may not like Piggy Bank Lies, but it's difficult to see how you can like 80% of the songs here & not like Curbside Goodbyes. Weird, but to each their own.

i don't dislike it, but the intro is just boring...it seems like they recorded that song last because their songwriting really ran out of steam on that song...particularly the intro. it's like "hey guys let's have a screaming intro that fades into a verse with clean vox and guitars" and left it at that. the same formula is used for some of the songs here so i can see why you'd be confused when i say i don't really care for this song but i like the others, but this song to me seems like the least amount of effort was put into it. i like the end though ("the way i've felt a hundred times" is awesome.)

First: I like this cd.
... but what i really dont get: how come so few people here complain about the boring and generic lyrics? I mean, usually sputnikmembers give every band shit bigtime for lyrics like the ones on this record, but somehow emery seems to get away with it.

Their lyrics really aren't that generic, and the fact the entire album manages to be catchy as fuck forces us to overlook such lyrics.

Lyrics are still really good though, dunno what people are talking about.

I think people are just making up reasons as to why this shouldn't be rated as a 5. Because I agree that the lyrics are great.

"i don't dislike it, but the intro is just boring..." That's a fair enough reasoning IAmInsect. Unsure I totally agree with you, but the world would be a boring place if we all agreed on everything. Plus, I don't view that song as being on the best half of the LP myself.
"how come so few people here complain about the boring and generic lyrics? I mean, usually sputnikmembers give every band shit bigtime for lyrics like the ones on this record, but somehow emery seems to get away with it." Well, I'm not one of those Sputnikers you speak of, since I admittedly see lyrics a little less importantly than most around here. I still think they're pretty good btw, but can understand why you may feel them generic. Plus, as LG said, the fact it's so catchy tends to overide the lyrics for me.

I haven't listened to this too much. I know it can't be a 5. I feel the band are slightly generic and not as good as Sputnik makes them out to be.

God I hate the word "generic".

UPDATE: This still isn't the best post-hardcore record ever.

I should check this out again. I remember listening to the stream when it was first released and thought it was kinda meh, but
there are too many 4.5's and 5's to ignore...

Nope. You know I'm a slack a$$. I was pretty much tied up with SoundWave listening for most of Feb & just concentrating on a few reviews now. I'll get there... eventually.
