You asked a question you should have known I would have the answer to.

I always do something while listening to music (ie: browse the net, do homework, ect.) so it's not that hard for me to listen to whole albums without getting bored
|
| |
I can't listen to this without contemplating the meaning of life, it'll come to me eventually
|

It's almost like a high, isn't it? I go into such deep thought when I listen to this. It's a euphoric experience.

well, this really isn't accessible at all. I'm not surprised other sites don't like it as much... Name someone you know who'd sit and listen to an hour long instrumental post-rock album.
No, I'm talking about those that listen to and rate this genre. The majority of those review sites didn't find anything spectacular about this, though they said it was a good post rock release.

not really sure what you're talking about, The Silent Ballet gave it an 8.5, and Siren Sound seemed very favorable too.

The majority of those review sites are wrong, then.

He's probably talking about Pitchfork (who gave it a 7).

because that's what it is.

I wasn't just talking about Pitchfork. Other sites haven given it less as well; you can take a look at metacritic which compiles critics' opinions and averages them. This had like a 75 with Sputnick being the highest reviewer by the way:
http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/mono/hymntotheimmortalwind?q=mono
All I'm saying is that Sputnick has a higher opinion of this album than nearly anyone else. Even rateyourmusic.com (A site that's similiar to here but with more members gave it an average of 3.5 with 928 ratings as of now.
Does anyone understand what I'm saying? Generally Sputnick matches up with other sites, but with this album it seems to be rated fairly high in comparison.
|

i guess sputnick just loves them some mono

Yes. That's basically all it means.
Haha sorry, I guess I just had to elaborate a little bit. I hope I didn't come off jerk-ish.

you're not, but this evidence you're presenting is really faulty. There are two unfavorable reviews of this, 2 70s, and the other six are 80 and above. That sounds like universal praise to me. RYM usually has lower combined scores than sputnik anyway too.

barely touched psot rock this year accidentally but maybeshewill is better i think. i hope ASMZ release a new album next year

I may be wrong but hasn't that got something to do with the rym scale being between 0 and 5 instead of 1 and 5?

There is a fifty and a twenty there though...
No offense but that's definitely not universal praise. Anyway, it really doesn't matter; if the users here love this album than that's totally okay with me. I was just stating something that I had noticed that doesn't seem to occur much here.

Listened to this quite a few times, can't really get into it. Feels very predictable really and the crash cymbals (or the percussion in general) just feels so out of place both in the composition and the mix.

The average sputnik score is still 4.1 which is like an 82, its pretty much in agreement with the general concensus.
