and obviously like what you like and all that

but the styles they consider popular are very repetitive/low-effort bait.

I think of the 'revival' sound you're talking about, Shin Guard was fun before they randomly went deathcore lol

Cleric will finally release a new album eventually and reintroduce balance to grind and all grind-adjacent genres that hope to be different.

@Ghandi yeah Canada Songs always reminded me of US except not as fun or expressive.

@Mars in the defense of “revival fans” most of them are pretty young and optimistic, so in a way it’s actually kind of nice that they don’t realize how KoRny it is

Yeah like I said, obligatory disclaimer of "enjoy whatever live life love eat ass etc," I'm glad people can find their niche for sure. But sometimes those bands can be very derivative.

Really, the same issue plagues any genre, partially because music has been explored so much that true innovation is harder to find. I thought dissodeath was cool but now even that is getting so played out I'm almost tired of it.

Personally, it usually boils down to how well a band synthesizes their influences. Anything that feels too much like a copycat just doesn't work with me for long.

I'd like to think that dissonant death metal is past it's half life rn. Still some potential though.

New Imperial Triumphant will hopefully give the genre a good kick in the arse.

I am wed to it by either genuine interest or some sense of obligation and am in too deep to quit, I will be going down with the ship.
