All you’d have to do is quickly browse any number of users ratings to put the presumptuous fallacy that anyone who prefers el-p’s pre RTJ work only does so because RTJ is popular. That’s a ridiculous cop out.

EL-P’s flow was better BECAUSE of that bombast, and because the jilted edge had bite, and a very visceral emotional quality. It was unique. His rapping in RTJ is boring and shallow in comparison.

Look, I won't debate his lyricism because there's a point to be made that he has become less avant garde and less esoteric - and if you prefer that style, fine. But imagine him trying to rap one of those double time flows he learned from hanging out with Mike (who has one of the best flows in hip-hop and this is not up for debate) back in his Fan Dam days and he'd likely die from exhaustion.
