what an incredible listen! I'm listening to this every day, either in its entirety or some of the best songs (Brother Sport, My Girls, and In the Flowers....at least now)

I saw them sometime around November. it was pretty good, but they didn't play any songs from Feels or the Water Curses EP, which made me cry a little. apart from that it was a great concert, mainly stuff from Strawberry Jam and a few pieces from the new album. but maybe their show's gonna be different now, with the new album out and all the praise and everything.
edit: the highlight of the concert was definitely Panda Bear's "Comfy in Nautica".This Message Edited On 01.20.09

this is easily their best album and a huge improvement from strawberry jam. i like almost every song on here but "daily routine" and "guys eyes" are just terrible.

They were just in NYC twice and I couldn't go. I will make every effort to hit their one in May.
I don't think this is easily their best album. I haven't been able to decide on if it beats Strawberry Jam yet and Feels is still ahead. They're all great though.

gave the album a spin-certainly interesting yet really odd. I'll spin it a few more times to give a final judgment
I'm actually gonna see these guys live tomorrow night. Anything I should know?
And good review btwThis Message Edited On 01.20.09

They usually deploy shells filled with white phosphorous at the end of the show so bring a gas mask.

well the last Animal Collective show I went to, they played most of Strawberry Jam and this was about one month before it came out, so I knew no songs. Kinda sucked because I couldn't really get into it, and as you know, some of the songs from Strawberry Jam aren't exactly thrillers

I saw them and loved them on that tour. This tour is mainly songs from MPP with a few reworks including Winters Love, Slippi and a sweet version of Banshee Beat. Fireworks will probably still be a staple as well. Also theyve been playing a new tune which is really sweet.

You're right about the flow Flatley but that's more this album being super flowy then the other lacking it a lot. I REALLY love the songs on Jam.
I'm not close to NYC but I am in NY. I'm over by Rochester.

Completely agree that this isn't easily their best album but it gives Feels a good challenge (though I still think Feels is their best) and it juuuust beats out Strawberry Jam, which I feel the same about as you, in how the songs are amazing even if it may lack the flow this one has.
Wish I could go to an Animal Collective show I'm stuck in Asia for another six months.

strawberry jam is def better than this, i don't know if it flows well necessarily but its much more varied and just stronger lyrically and musically more interesting imo

^ I don't know about that
Merriweather definitely takes all the pop inclinations of Strawberry Jam and essentially bends them into submission. Strawberry meandered a around a bit (Cuckoo Cuckoo) but also had a feel of a collection of songs, as opposed to a cohesive album. This has always been an issue of theirs, until this record. Even 'Feels' can't attest to a general aesthetic, as much as sets of songs in the beginning, middle and end.
But the Jam = the shit, and, really, they're all amazing albums
