This reminds me of an argument I had with a former user here on MSN about pop quality being an objective thing.
I've decided pop music elitists are the worst kind of elitist.

^exactly what Meatplow just said. Pop music is the most subjective type of music (sounds stupid but you know what I mean).

It's relevant in popular culture, therefore it must be bad

the genre is just extremely derivative and bland to me. i mean really...if you've heard one song of this ilk, you've heard them all.

People that claim once you've heard one song, you've heard them all truly piss me off.

I found I've grown in to certain types of music, even the commercialized music that dominates the radio, simply because it's fun.

fromtheinside: Obviously it's sarcasm. I'm basically using your own logic (and the logic of those who agree with you) against you.
You guys are saying pop music is so subjective, and can't be judged by any objective standard, and so it's stupid to say Lady GaGa sucks, blah blah blah. So i'm saying this: i never want to see another negative comment on a Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, or N'Sync album review EVER AGAIN. If you guys really believed what you preach (all pop is totally subjective), you would be unable to say that Miley Cyrus is bad music. Your opinion of her music may remain low, but you would have no logical basis on which to make an absolute statement about how terrible her music is. So you should have no problem with people rating a Miley Cyrus album a 5.
And the fact that you would have a problem with that proves my point: pop music (and all music for that matter) definitely has an element of objectivity in it, and in fact is not exclusively subjective.

Party in the USA is a catchy song, what's it to you?

Lil Wayne has catchy songs too...that doesn't mean it's quality music.
my point is: no one here is going to rate a Miley Cyrus album a 5. and if someone did, they would be ridiculed into oblivion. why is that true? because music is not exclusively subjective. at some point, there is a standard upon which we would say: Miley Cyrus is not quality music.

nope actually you just defeated your own argument fromtheinside.
if pop music is subjective (as you previously claimed), then by what standard can you make the statement that "Lady GaGa is everything Miley wishes she could be?"
|

Lady Gaga has more of a foothold because of her age as well, where as Miley, like Britney is starting out young - more likely to crash and burn, which is already happening, slowly but surely
