I personally just really need to be in the perfect mood to listen to this for it to blow my mind -- which does happen occasionally, but most of the time I think this is just a very solid black metal album. I understand and respect its influence still, I'm just not the biggest fan.

That's fine. I just prefer this by a significant margin to any other second-wave album. Just think it has better riffs, better overall musicianship, more interesting vocals, and a cooler atmosphere. Every track is memorable. Would actually say this is leaps and bounds over any record Darkthrone has ever put out.
