what is the difference between a riff and a groove?

i'd say a riff is mainly defined by its melody, whereas a groove is all rhythm. some riffs obvs groove (and these tracks defs flash a few big ones), but so much more of what makes this album distinctive comes from the rhythm end that i feel it'd be a disservice to sell it first and foremost as a riff-fest idk
