This continues to sour on me. I find myself tolerating much of the bloat in order to get to the greatness, which shines through in small doses. The last couple minutes in Invincible, for example, are spectacular, but the front nine or so are....well...fucking boring.
Its a tough pill to swallow. My feelings are so up in the air that I've waited until page 180 to even comment on it.

I actually think I need a break. Luckily, CoL dropped the AOTY today.
On first listen I 5'd this. Must have heard it 15 times, idk. Somehow, most of this feels Tool-by-the-numbers to me.

Give it a month or so and come back.i get the Tool by the numbers. That’s the most obvious appearance. But it’s anything but. This is an evolution and culmination of what they’ve been building to (and if there’s another album, I feel it’ll sound very different because this was the finale, no more they can do with this sound without being rote).

Well, we got it. That's what I needed. I can still groove to it, and I can still heavily enjoy many of the moments in it. I just think it clearly lags behind the three previous albums.
