not anytime soon, its far more interesting than the record i bought the same day that i have at a 2 and that'd have to drop to a 1 for that to make sense and i don't ever see that album dropping to a 1 bc its far from awful/unlistenable its just mildly irritating in spots

Breaking Benjamin's "Ember", far more lifeless, predictable, and samey than this ever was. and being that i loved them prior to their reformation, you would think that would mean id love them now but something just feels off with the last couple records.

im sure that one is better than this. #BB4Life

dont hedge ur bets, their post-reunion work has been so disappointing because now it feels like they don't have their own identity anymore. this at least takes a ton of risks within its simple format

i form my opinions based on this site's averages and this has a .4 difference with ember so.........................

for reasons that i'd imagine boil down to "many Breaking Benjamin fans will accept anything within the formula of what they created."

if this is a 2 then Ember is a 1. and Ember is not a 1, so this cannot be a 2.

well i'm going off of my own standards here, this may have an arena-rock base but its far more experimental and risky than the usual fare for the style so i'm giving it props for taking that base and doing something i feel is interesting with it. yes it's the weakest album with Spencer, but given that this is the only one below a 9/10 from me, that's not too big of an insult. maybe itll drop to a 7, but thats as low as i see this going

what even does that analogy have to do with this record having better vocals (a very big reason for my appreciation of bands like this going alt-rock is they have a generally higher focus on the vocals which i like far more than many bands that were always riding the post-grunge/alt-rock wave) and generally taking more risks than the usual fare for the style they chose? lol

I wouldn't say having an arena rock sound is "taking a risk" when 90% of the metalcore bands who water down their sound go that same route

to me it's what they DO with the arena-rock style, it's the pushing of boundaries and incorporating what they learned along the way and applying it. heady electronics, a generally atmospheric quality, and keeping their trademark vocal styles which i feel translate extremely well to alt-rock. i'd much rather hear this than whatever the fuck Disturbed, Three Days Grace, or Skillet have been doing these days, for instance. and like i said, it's a lot less lifeless than post-reunion Breaking Benjamin
