It's only white guilt because everyone on sput is white. It's not like this LP is prepackaged with white guilt

I prefer my white guilt in high quality digital downloads tbh

the worst part is most of the 'white guilt' bullshit comes from white people.

It's like eating a burger in front of a hungry orphan. Sure you're going to feel sorry for the poor kid but I'm eating the whole burger I paid for it jeez

no white person alive today should be living with 'white guilt,' unless they are actually racist

White guilt and an understanding of privilege aren't the same thing though. WG is like being sad that you are privileged and expecting that to change things because you cba to get up off your arse and do something about it.
Privilege is the inherent understanding that there is a gap in society due to pre-existing prejudices and that some people are disadvantaged because of those things and then you can work using that social fabric that's been identified to fix stuff.

This album isn't about wg, it's about that understanding. No-one needs to be guilty just understand.
If what you take away from this album is that you need to feel guilty it's a cop out. Being guilty is what people do when they can't pretend something isn't true but don't actually want to fix it so feeling bad kinda helps them feel less guilty that they're doing fuck all.

i agree, kendrick is not after white people, but a lot of people act like it. privilege is fucking stupid though, typically something felt and advocated through entitled douchebags. i mean sure, we're privileged to live in canada or the united states, but why does that even need to be acknowledged? people all around the world are living in impoverished countries, dying every day, and there's not a damn thing we can do about it. we are fortunate to have been born in the first world, end of story. it's great when people donate, or engage in a dialogue about these things, but too much guilt and 'trigger' bullshit is going around these days. seems like 2015 was the year to be offended. i'm hoping 2016 doesn't carry that trend forward, although i think it's only going to get worse

also s/o to js for getting it. i side eye anyone that uses white guilt as a prejorative to anyone who acknowledges privilege

2015 and the tumblr oppression olympics really put a dent into a lot of legitimate causes i feel

people who post facebook statuses about their acknowledgement of their perceived privilege are honestly doing it for social acceptance and facebook likes, and maybe to incite a useless internet argument

But the people who were most offended were the people who got called privileged! People really really really didn't like people saying that they had it easier than other people it made them angry and offended. And the 'everyone on tumblr is so offended' movement is an offended reaction to that...
I'm not saying those people don't go too far because a lot of what that particular 'sect' is on about is total over the top garbage. But fixing imbalances needs recognition of those imbalances, or it just doesn't work.

it's this whole pc movement. too many fucking people are getting offended because of dumbass 'trigger' words and other innocuous shit instead of actually being proponents for the things they advocate, outside of pointlessly arguing with people over word usage and other dumb shit i mean

I think the whole tumbr thing was blown out of proportion. Crazy people exist in every single sect of society but usually we don't listen to them and ignore them. I feel like the attempted over-representation of those people by a lot of groups, especially internet cultures, is a sub-conscious attempt to try and make the feelings of 'other people have actually had it harder than me' feel less legitimate.
I guess I'm kind of a moderate in the middle of this stuff - but I do understand where both sides are coming from.

Someone needs to tell 4chan that not everyone who does something they don't understand has autism because everyone doesn't have autism

most of the people engaging in these arbitrary internet debates are living in the first world - living better than 90% of the population, but many of them talk about this state of oppression they face. there are serious issues going on in the world. war-torn countries where kids are dying every day, where people can't afford food and are plagued with diseases, and we're getting caught up on stupid shit like: should males be able to engage in a debate about feminism?
i'm not even sure i saw this whole tumblr debacle, but i've had interactions with some pretty entitled people who misconstrue my every word and demonize me, sometimes for wanting to be a part of the conversation because i didn't preface my introduction to the debate with 'i'm a privileged white male, but here's what i think...'
the author of this review is in fact such a person
