No. Bands like U-Men and Melvins started grunge. You could even argue King's X began grunge as we know it today with their first few records
In the words of Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament: "King's X invented grunge"

Mother Love Bone was a big influence, but not the only influence. If you want to be technical on who was the first full-fledged grunge band, that would be the band Green River, who was already releasing material in the mid 80s

that doesn't mean andrew wood started it
in fact if you go back and look he still had some of the trappings of the glam rock that grunge eschewed

I fail to understand how the pioneering of any genre can fall on just one person. That argument alone is fucking absurd. Not just in the context of grunge, but ANY genre

idk, as a hardcore grunge fanatic, I can think of at least 20 albums in the genre that I enjoy more than Apple. It's a good album, but the remnants of glam rock in the sound are a bit distracting, especially in terms of Andrew's eccentric persona and style on the record. Not the best fit for the doom and gloom of Seattle alternative imo

"Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Bjork.... want me to go on? or?"
You think they were the only ones pioneering their respective genres and fields? That's pretty hilarious
Considering the vast and far-reaching nature of music and its various communities, I'd say that's a pretty ignorant statement to make

"That's like saying you fail to see how Metallica existed without Black Sabbath."
it would be if metallica had formed and released an album BEFORE sabbath did

You're talking to the guy who listens to and plays music as his main passion, and you want to criticize my lack of listening experience? My taste reaches across various forms of music ranging from rock to metal to jazz to blues to classical to folk to experimental to many others. By this point, I'm pretty sure you're just trying to be a cunt to me in any thread you can. It's getting irritating.
What I was stating is that every genre has to rely on many different artists in its development and creation. Otherwise, where would the continued diversity and evolution of a style be?

i just don't understand how anyone can make that claim when even a basic concept of time and how it works completely refutes it
