@Dom: Oh yes, not really into sludge at the moment (and not really in general) so haven't checked.

The vocal melodies during the intro to River could be straight out of a bluegrass ballad.

River is prolly the least Opeth sounding song they've ever written

I thought the first half of River was pretty bad, picked up towards the end though.

Didn't get to the end of the album as something came up, gonna jam the last two songs in a bit.

Drumming on PC isn't as awesome as on this though

Would have to be pretty special to live up to the drumming on here.

The drumming is still one of the things I've enjoyed most about PC on my first listen though (jamming those last two tracks now).

one of the best things about PC is that it def gets way better the more you listen to it. i wasn't
blown away by anything during first run through.

The last two songs are really fucking good. Was a little disappointed up until those but damn they rule. Obviously way too early to cast judgment on the album after just one listen though.

Faith in Others is a brilliant closer, beautiful and feels like sort of an end of an era.

I also thought Elysian Woes was among the better tracks on the album.

@fsharp: Yeah I will do. Probably not until it comes out though, I've satisfied my curiosity, perhaps one more listen and then I'll wait.

Its not the final mix, people need to bear that in mind too.

I honestly think Joakim and Axe are the best thing about the record, the key work from Joakim is particularly spectacular.

Axe was always going to be one of the best things about the album.

Joakim has stepped up though man, his work on Heritage got the job done but he has pushed himself SO much further on PC.
