no. I hate it. you can make vocals brutal without having to sound like you've got a bad cold

I mean they are ok here and there... but if its all the vocals ever are then it gets tiresome. whats the point in writing lyrics if nobody can understand what you're saying?!

maybe we have different definitions of growls? check Opeth - Blackwater Park, my favorite growls oat.
anyway, my recs are all pretty awesome and Bergtatt is a black metal essential so keep it up.

"check Opeth - Blackwater Park, my favorite growls oat."
well yeah I dont mind them as he is a talented vocalist and can actually sing. but when there is a band that creates a really sweet atmosphere then some guy comes in and just growls for 4 mins over the top... ugh

I didnt mean to say this album has growls/ cookie monster vocals XD. Im just asking for other metal that has the atmosphere like this (but without the growls that usually apply to this genre of music)

dude, most people who listen to metal hated growls at some point of their life, even I did. everyone gets used to it at some point and then it's like a door opened and behind it there is so much awesome stuff to check out.
including those I mentioned above. those are with screams, but not with growls. don't know if that makes a difference for you.

Alcest maybe? Most bands similar to these guys will have some kind of screams. Actually, check out Septembre et Ses Dernières Pensées by Les Discrets if you haven't. I think that's pretty close to what you're looking for.

so the first three Agalloch albums got remastered apparently. picked up the remaster of this and holy shit, it's actually an improvement. not overcompressed like a lot of remasters; if anything, it's even less compressed and more dynamic than the original. a lot clearer and better-balanced sound overall. sounds fantastic.
