You'll love it or hate it. Just give it a spin anyway.

eh, lack of riffs wasn't really the problem with this, imo

Very good news. I hope they go back to Nick Raskulinecz. That dude even managed to get Korn to sound good again. He nailed it for Deftones on Diamond Eyes and KNY, too. Just like Mastodon should stick to Brendan O'Brien, Deftones should stick to Raskulinecz.

Agreed, although a lot of Carpenter's guitar work isn't exactly his most inspired here. It's still good, but he's done way better in the past.

as someone who has every single Deftones album rated higher than the average except this, SNW and Adrenaline, it's weird to see how high the average is for an album like this that's kind of a huge fuckin mess

This album has some standouts, but it's a mess [2]

I find that ironic cause this album sees Steph play more riffs (like parts that aren't just three chords over and over again) than any album since Adrenaline

Didn't heard the album yet. Actually I lost the trace of deftones after diamond eyes, but the photo Chino posted of Martin Gore, kinda makes sense, reading your comments.

check out Koi at least

and I disagree that this album's a mess - it sounds pretty cohesive to me - it's just not quite as sonically appealing on the heavier moments as the past ones have been

why is it so tempting to say the same thing in different ways about this record. I guess we all have our "Phantom Bride sucks"

Phantom Bride and Gore really brought the signature heavy moments. Same with end of Acid Hologram. Deftones ain't heavy like they used to be, now whenever they go there I'm just grateful -.-

it's a gorgeous song but for me the 1-2 punch of (L)MIRL and Gore upstage it. In fact the last 4 songs on this are pretty insane, that's an intense 20 minutes of Deftones right there.

True, it doesn't sound like your standard Deftones track, but regardless it's still fucking awesome so I disagree
