I love Spiritual Healing but it took the longest to click for me out of all their albums (besides Scream Bloody Gore which I still can’t get into).

Spiritual was the first 'classic lineup' death I kept in my rotation, but scream/leprosy have grown on me heavy and idk which is my fav atm. Human is my favorite death album and has been for like 20 years, naturallaw strikes me as someone who'll love symbolic. And honestly 'sound's probably the one i go back to the least, it's still a banger tho

yeah after hearing this album i have higher hopes for the upcoming 3. i also got control denied on my ipod which ill listen to once the death discography is done. Been trying to really focus on the foundational bands before continuing onto more contemporary ones.

Bands like:

Megadeath

Judas Priest

Metallica

Slayer

Iron Maiden

Black Sabbath

Anthrax

etc

same goes for Death, since they are foundational for Death metal.

the essential death metal bands imo are:

death

morbid angel

suffocation

incantation

immolation

entombed

autopsy

cannibal corpse

once you’ve heard those you have a pretty good idea of where the genre evolved from.

nah they’re more in the “where it evolved” category.

i didn’t choose those bands necessarily because they’re the “best of the best” but because their sounds laid the groundwork for the genre as a whole.

yeah and gorguts first album was nowhere near as influential or as unique as immolation or suffocation. they really didn’t develop an essential sound until obscura which was 98

good luck! there’s a lot of killer music in the genre. I’d honestly kill to go back and hear some of these albums for the first time again.
