"Maybe I should revisit at some stage and reconsider my rating?"

The Last Baron ... kicks the living shit out of every song they have ever made. Got that tough guys?

I might agree with that - that and The Czar are sooooooo unreasonably awesome.

Anybody know who is screaming on the title track? Doesn't sound like Troy or Brent.

That's Scott Kelly from Neurosis. He's on tour with them right now in Europe.

No doubt about it. They're too far into commercial success to go back to this sound I think

So much better than their first three albums. I don't see the huge hype for Leviathan at all, it's merely good, not a modern classic or something like that imo

Also the clean vocals are (for the most part) pretty weak on Leviathan

The clean vox in general aren't exactly a selling point when it comes to Mastodon, not for me anyway. I can see how someone would prefer this, it's excellent after all, but Leviathan is awesome. It might be favourite 'Don, perfect balance between the heavier & more progressive aspects of their sound.

Yes, that's true. However, i will say that the clean vox on here are vastly improved and very enjoyable, especially those on Divinations and the title track

I don't rate this as much as their first three. Although I have been enjoying Emperor of Sand a great deal as of late.

Odd. I can see someone liking this also enjoying EoS but liking their earlier stuff & EoS but being relatively lukewarm to this seems contradictory.

Yeah, that does seem a bit weird. Hoping for a new live DVD/Blu Ray, since they really stepped up their live vocals

To be fair I haven't listened to this one as much as I have others. I do remember liking this but maybe I need to listen to it a bit more.

Well that makes sense. This one hits the spot when I'm in the mood, my enjoyment fluctuates more than with the first 3 though.
