David Byrne wrote a book called How Music Works and I got it on Audible and it was a pretty damn solid listen so I'm finally getting around to jamming some of the Talking Heads stuff. I'd heard a track here and there before but hearing this in full finally is pretty awesome. Really really cool stuff. Also highly recommend that book for any fans of the band or anyone who wants to get nerdy about music in general

I know I've already brought this up before but I was listening to this again yesterday and I realised my feelings on this have become even stronger. It's annoying listening to this and have guys say how this band/David Bryne was so innovative and revolutionary when a lot of this album is straight-up derived from African music. Some of the rhythms aren't even changed at all. Then you read stuff like how King Crimson were so influenced by David Bryne in Beat and I just scratch my head. The African artists that created this style of music and had been playing it for centuries before get absolutely no credit at all because the white guy who brought this style of music to that audience is seen as an innovative revolutionary. I just needed to go on this rant again.

The overly liberal attitude of this record offends me as a native Eastern European human with conservative views of the world. But it's good music so I'll accept it!

"Did Byrne get away with this appropriation because he's an autist?"

Then there's King Crimson's Discipline possibly being about autism or even possibly David Bryne himself and yet they couldn't get away with the celtic knot.
