even the guitars don't particularly impress, sure there's a cool riff here and there but considering i typically don't focus on it, it takes a truly standout moment (of which Act has none) to get me talking about the guitars beyond them being a good background and adding atmosphere to the most important thing i look for: does it make me feel something? which this album does do in a lot of places.

hmm i know that was sarcasm, but if you're looking for an easy way in that provides the essentials in a more streamlined, accessible format this isn't a bad start. this and TOCS were the albums that really got me interested to dig deeper

yea but he can handle better music so DTGL is fine to start

as an introduction it may be a bit too much if you aren't already super into that caliber of atmospheric sludgey metalcore, i had to build to it, it's not something that was instant for me but now i have a higher appreciation of that era because i've let it grow on me and reveal its brilliance, it's better than this but had it not been for this I likely wouldn't have been intrigued enough to let it.

Pre-Spencer was terribad in general. TOCS is okay. The run from DTGL to Disam is *chef's kiss*. Seriously amazing stretch of music on those three albums. Then there's this turd and the next turd that's yet to be released.

wild that they hearkened back to LITSOS on one of the big singles for Voyeurist yet that's still a "turd" hahahah it's like what daniel bryan said... fickle

I've all but written them off lmao. Haven't even bothered listening to the singles. I'll check at some point, but my hopes are not high

i'd at least check "pneumonia", gives me "casting such a thin shadow" vibes all the way through and that's one of the best songs off DTGL

The song with Ghostemane is shockingly the best of the bunch

nope to anything venin says about this band so far

"The song with Ghostemane is shockingly the best of the bunch" probably just needs a few more listens from me, but as it stands now it has to be "pneumonia" easy. that atmospheric post-metalish flare with the electronic mix they have going on is their best sound to me, it's a long buildup but it's so worth it. the soundscapes they can create when just given time to experiment almost always deliver.

Sorry just reading the previous page now, but I actually really like Act of Depression. Lyrics are an easy target but musically it kind of whips. I’m biased though I pretty much always prefer a bands sound when they are finding their feet

The singles are okay. If I had to rate based on those 4 songs it'd probably be like a 2.5 or 3 if I'm being generous. Cycle was kinda cool. Damn Excuses was okay. Hallelujah was pretty bad, that repeated chant stuff was pretty amateur sounding. Pneumonia was kinda cool too but I kinda hate when bands release the closer as a single and that song takes a good while to actually pick up and start going somewhere.

probably another 4 based on the singles imo, damn excuses was solid, basically taking the minimal melodies from disambig and intertwining it with LITSOS straight to the point-ness. hallelujah takes more from LITSOS and streamlines it, another solid track and i didnt mind the chants. pneumonia takes a while but i find those tracks that build up to something bigger to be some of the best when it's done by bands well-accustomed to it like underoath. as for cycle, it just sounds...off, idk if it was production or what but something about it doesn't sound right. album just kinda feels like LITSOS 2.0 so far which i'm not mad at

"wild that they hearkened back to LITSOS on one of the big singles for Voyeurist"
Wild that you're still trying to push that narrative when it sounds nothing like anything on LITSOS

Honestly its shaping up to be a better version of Erase Me with shittier production. Hope they surprise me with a couple songs like on here but I'm sad about not being excited for it whatsoever.
Haven't outright hated any of the new singles which is more than I could say about Rapture ugh

"Wild that you're still trying to push that narrative when it sounds nothing like anything on LITSOS" the atmosphere in the verses, that main riff in the hook, it all sounds like a more streamlined version of LITSOS on "Hallelujah" lol
