The Walkmen remind me a lot of The National. not in tone, but in songwriting approach.

Never listened to The Walkmen, am I missing out?

The way I'd describe it is every common criticism thrown at The National (dull, boring, same-y, dreary, nothing new indie, etc) make more sense being levelled at The Walkmen.

I don't dislike them and they have some good tunes here and there - but overall they remind me how The National are something more than a meat and potatoes millennial indie act.

I wouldn't put them on the Interpol sorta level either. Bit below that. Classic 3/5 band.

It doesn't help that I find the singer's voice almost as unpleasant to listen to as the dude from Cold War Kids a lot of the time.

Prepare to be very bored Boney. Just spun the one I hadn't heard before, the debut. It's a 3/5.

I also played the 'Spotify Top 5 Most Played' tunes as a refresher...a less remarkable selection you'd be hard pressed to find.

Workmanlike millennial indie.

But in the internet age everyone knows every band that's released six damn albums and get reviewed highly on Pitchfork, they just never sparked much interest.

Oh damn klap, you reviewed all of the last three Walkmen records at a 4.5. This is some serious klapcore we're talking about here.

Doof I see they have Spoon as a "similar band" so perhaps they'd be a case like that where we disagree.

I prefer the Spoon singer's voice but they do also bring the 'raspy'.

Like I said, 3 out of 5 band, following my RYM rating system that makes them 'very good'. They're good, maybe very good at times. Nothing more than that for me though.

I'll give "You & Me" a spin for the sake of having an opinion, that seems to be the highest rated of those last three.

Spoon and The Walkmen arent all that much alike. Dont trust the similar artists section on this site.

You & Me or Bows + Arrows are probably the best places to start.

The vocals are the most similar part of the two bands...and even they're not all that similar.

Listening to You & Me... First track sounds more like Grizzly Bear than any of the other comparisons I've seen.
