"I kinda wonder how Gore would sound with the Diamond Eyes production style"
like a less "workmanlike" diamond eyes, probably

'first time I listened to the album and the chorus of prayers/triangles kicked in I was genuinely shocked at how the guitars basically sounded like atonal white noise on what was supposed to be a really melodic passage'
damn, never listen to adrenaline or even white pony then
stephan's always loved the ridiculously scratchy guitar sound, and it can be hit and miss af

yeah I've listened to both of those records multiple times
white pony's guitar sound is practically flawless, adrenaline ain't bad either really
the problem is that for a lot of gore it seems like there's so much emphasis on high end that the actual tone/notes get lost & the guitars are fighting with the cymbals; in short, it's kind of a mixing issue - but I guess the whole thing about steph not really wanting to do the record at first probably didn't help much either

I should prob clarify again though I'm talking strictly (most instances of) distorted guitar here, the clean parts are beautiful as usual

Steph totally phoned in most of his performance on Gore and it shows.

I think he needs to a side-project soon cause I know he said in an interview that he really didn't like the direction Gore took.
Would be a damn shame if he got burned out and quit the band tbh

This was the last album he used a 7 string guitar on, and I think it was the perfect balance of sound. After this he moved on to a 8 string and tuned his guitar down even further. I dig the heaviness but it's so low and deep the tone just sounds like a lifeless wall of chug sometimes.

honestly Gore is the first album i felt Stephen hurt the music but it was solely because of the "high-mid heavy" distorted tone and that probably wasn't even his fault so much as whoever "flubbed" that up in the mixing room
i could get w a bringing back of the 7-string instead of the 8 right about now tho

Yea I definitely think the chug riffs are overplayed nowadays, but SNW is nearly perfect.
