Faraudo I agree completely. I’ve seen other publications and heard friends say the same. that song is just astounding from start to finish
there are a few other clear gems on the album and a few i’m not sure about yet. as it is it’s looking to be my clear album of the year and likely favorite deftones album since the self titled

"Yeah u were trippin alright"
It was a pretty light kush, Pots. I wasn't that high lmao.

I'd have more conviction about this if i didn't think that spell of mathmatics was in the top 5 songs on the alb

Yeah, several people at least agree on the fact that it is the best song on the album, but for me it's way more than that tbh. It's my clear aoty as well, I can't imagine any other 2020 release being better than this.

As much as this exceeded my expectations it likely wont make my aoty list

Give it a couple more spins Pots, it's pretty good :-(
|
| |
Yeah it is it's good and I will
But this has been a really good year and this alb kind of hinges on the fact that I do have a nostalgia bias towards deftones
If I didn't listen to them a lot when I was a kid I wouldn't like this

a 3.5 pots rating for new deftones is definitely exceeding expectations, happy enough with it myself, don't feel pressured to put it on your aoty list lol
|
| |
Oh you know I feel no pressure to do that

Funny how life works.
It's the opposite for me. They annoyed me as a teenager.
Love this even though I never heard much besides WP.
|
| |
I'm just tryna think if it would make top 100 (bearing in mind that I include eps and comps on my aoty list)
There is a chance
But it wouldn't make top 50

In my defense, my first interaction with Deftones was the back to school video.

yea pots i’d put it down, not look at the media for it for a bit, and give it a spin in a week or two. i think the first couple tracks of the record are a little weaker compared to the rest, so maybe those set a bad pace for you with the record, and also hype has killed records for me. but hey if it’s just not your jam, i respect that completely

this is def in position to fall to a 4.2 possibly this week, hard to tell as new people are consistently rating this a 4.5 but not really anymore 5s

Then I fucking loved the video for my own summer.
Probably best music video of all time.
|
| |
I remember watching the vid for my own summer on MTV as a kid, might have been my first exposure to deftones
|
| |
@rip I like it tho
There's just a whole tonne of great shit that has come out this year that is more in my wheelhouse
I dont really fucks with alt, metal, or rock adjacent music much anymore so this is kind of an outlier in what I've rated positively this year. Which is a good sign for it.

I was 12 in 2002 when I discovered Deftones when Change played in the Dragon Ball Z Cooler movie and I was immediately trying to find out who played the song.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised that you enjoyed it as much as you did, so fair enough Potsy.
