yah / lust / element were always my top tier here. yah still the most standout for me and it was my immediate favorite as well

i feel like kendrick's announcement went largely unnoticed compared to all the hype he had built up over the years leading up to DAMN. like suddenly nobody takes him seriously anymore. no idea what to expect from this album but i can only hope it measures up to TPAB.

I am both insanely excited and extremely worried to see what he’s been working on

Jammed this last night for the first time in like 2 years and honestly was not feelin it. It just pales in comparison to TPAB in every imaginable way. I have no doubts he’ll do better with Mr. Morale

this and tpab are barely comparable but u are right. he was clearly going for accessible here and it’s a rly good attempt for the most part

The Dissect season on this album definitely helped me appreciate/love it more. Worth a listen, for sure. Gets a bit wordy at times, but overall a great podcast.

This album reaches that perfect balance between accessible and experimental. I'd definitely put it up there with his best albums idc what anyone says this shit is heat and still holds up nicely.

went back through his stuff after the announcement, and even though this doesn't fully match up to TPAB or good kid, it's still unbelievably solid
looking forward to the new one

I liked the tpab season a lot but when he started dissecting albums with far less substance/lore lyrically with the same extreme detail it became hard to take seriously for me. may check that out tho didn't know there was a damn season

The DAMN season is great, and the extreme detail fits an artist like Kendrick no matter the album. I agree that it's harder to stomach the scrupulosity with, like, a Mac Miller record (not saying Mac isn't good, but I don't think his intentionality reaches Kendrick's level).

Yeah exactly like when he brings up these deep cultural/historical allusions in Kendrick's lyrics and music, I believe Kendrick actually meant to do that. Kanye, Beyonce etc. not so much.

mostly agreed with jeet, this manages to be unique while still being accessible, the problem is just a lack of cohesion. it feels like the most accessible tracks are just thrown on here for the sake of having accessible tracks. and Kendrick can write some really good accessible tracks like Poetic Justice or Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe (or most of GKMC honestly) but here we have DNA, Loyalty and Humble which are pretty weak

new release is possibly going to be a double album?

We're gonna have another DAMN/NATION type scenario on our hands soon lol

i'd actually be cool with a double album considering the the 5+ year drought of kendrick music... which is kind of an eternity by modern hip hop standards. nearly all his contemporaries have released like 2-4 albums over that same time period

Triples is best.
