the good thing is there's no monthly fee so you don't feel obligated to play, which i feel like is the biggest part of the addiction

Yeah that's the nice thing about gw2, you pay the 50 or 60 bucks and then nothing more, and it's just as good if not better than any mmo with a montly fee
